What is "parking"?
In order to register a domain name for your use it must have at least two nameservers who are willing to answer for it. When your domain is used for email or any other purpose, these nameservers are usually provided by your ISP as part of your service fee. Parking implies that you do not plan to use your domain right away. However, you still need to have nameservers willing to answer for the domain. We allow you to use our nameserver free of charge for this purpose.
How does parking differ from hosting?
As stated above, when a domain is parked it is not being used. Hosting is providing email, website hosting, ftp hosting and/or other services for the domain. We offer competitive rates for hosting and are willing to tailor our services to fit your requirements. Please contact Customer Service with your requirements for a quote.
Why does anyone park a domain?
There are two common reasons. First, since domain names are "sold" on a first come basis, it is common to reserve a domain name well in advance of actually using it to avoid someone else from getting it. The second most common reason is to park a domain that you've been using but, do not use in the immediate future.
If I register a domain and park it with you who owns it?
Whoever registers the domain, owns it.
If your service is free why am I charged when I try to register a domain?
Domains are not really purchased, but rented. There are several registrars for .com, .net and .org top level domains, each has their own pricing structure. We register domains at the discounted price of $25 for the first year.
Why do you do this?
When your domain is parked with us, we point it to a generic website which provides us with some advertising value. Also, we hope that when you are ready to use the domain you will take advantage of our competitive hosting rates and excellent service.
